X-Country Adventure

While these images are not from the actual adventure that took place a few week back, they will help you better envision the experience.

Brooke and I decided to take Sedona x-country skiing, hit the main loop at the Nordic Center. Usually about an hour if we're pulling her. We left the parking lot at 4pm figuring we'd be back by 5pm just as it was getting dark. We did bring our head lamps and water just in case something happened and we got stuck out there.

As we figured, we arrived back in the parking lot at 5pm, just as it was getting dark. We were warm, happy, and Sedona was in great spirits. I reached into my pocket to grab the key and my hand came out the other side. No key. Just a big hole in my pocket. Knowing that the key could be almost anywhere on the trail, deep in the woods, in the pitch dark, the reality of finding it was akin to being served a rare, tender steak in a vegan resturant.

But hey, what else could we do? Brooke took Sedona in the warming hut (the lodge was closed and the parking lot empty) while I strapped on my head lamp and headed back into the woods on skis to try and pull off the impossible. To make a long story short, after about 15 min of skiing in utter blackness, I decided to turn around. Then thought better of it and pushed on to the next trail crossing. Magically, the key was lying in the middle of the trail. I was literlly screaming and laughing like a crazy person in the middle of a dark and cold wilderness.

Vermont adventures.
